Iris Vessey Iris has been a tireless, behind-the-scenes worker for AIS, has leadership roles in ICIS and AMCIS, is an associate editor for journals, and a researcher. Iris is Professor of Information Systems at Indiana University’s Kelley School of Business, Bloomington. Iris received her M.Sc., MBA, and Ph.D. in Management Information Systems from the University of Queensland, Australia. She served on the faculties of the University of Queensland, the University of Pittsburgh, and Pennsylvania State University before joining the faculty at Indiana University. She is concerned with the emergence of Information Systems as a discipline, and served on the Organizing Committee of the Association for Information Systems. She has been Secretary of the Association since its inception in 1995. She was Joint Conference Chair for the 1997 Americas Conference on Information Systems (AMCIS) held in Indianapolis. Iris is recognized for her research into evaluating emerging information technologies, from both cognitive and analytical perspectives. Much of her research has used qualitative research methods to assess the efficacy of new technologies. A major contribution in this area is the theory of cognitive fit, the matching of solution approaches to the problem at hand. The theory has been applied to both information presentation and to systems development. Iris was recently ranked as one of the top ten IS researchers during the period 1991 to1996. Iris’ current research focus is on the management and organization of enterprise resource planning systems (ERPs). She is investigating factors driving the adoption of ERP systems, as well as factors influencing the successful implementation of such systems. The latter research involves both theoretical analyses of risk factors and intensive organizational case studies. Iris’s publications have appeared in journals such as Information Systems Research, Communications of the ACM, Journal of Management Information Systems, MIS Quarterly, Information and Management, Decision Sciences, IEEE Transactions on Software Engineering, IEEE Transactions on Systems, Man and Cybernetics, IEEE Software, Information Technology and Management Journal, The Journal of Systems and Software, Behavior and Information Technology, International Journal of Man-Machine Studies (now the International Journal of Human-Computer Studies). Iris currently serves as Associate Editor for Information Systems Research, Management Science, Journal of Management Information Systems, and Information Systems Frontiers. She serves as an ad hoc reviewer for most information systems journals as well as a number of software engineering journals. Iris is Director of the Information Management Affiliates Program at Indiana University, a program that offers seminars to high-level IS managers on managerial implications of information technologies, as well as providing a forum for exchange of information and ideas on technology topics of current interest. Iris was Conference Vice-Chair of the 1987 International Conference on Information Systems (ICIS), and she is serving as Co-Cair of the 2000 Ernst & Young Foundation/ ICIS Doctoral Consortium. She has also served on the program committees of numerous conferences. |
