Ron Weber Ron Weber

Ron Weber is Professor of Information Systems in the Department of Commerce and Research Director for the faculty of Business, Economics and Law at the University of Queensland. In 1972, he graduated with first class honors and a University Medal in Accounting from the University of Queensland. From 1970 to 1973, he worked as a programmer, systems analyst, and project manager in the Queensland Main Roads Department. He then undertook his MBA and Ph.D. in Management Information Systems at the University of Minnesota.

In 1977 Ron returned to Australia as Senior Lecturer in the Department of Accounting and Public Finance at the Australian National University. In 1979 he took up the post of Reader in Commerce at the University of Queensland. In 1981 he was appointed Professor of Commerce, and in 1988 he was the inaugural appointment to the GWA Chair in Commerce, which he held until 1993. During periods on leave from the University of Queensland, he has been a Visiting Professor at the University of Minnesota, New York University, the University of British Columbia, the University of Alberta, the University of Otago, and Nanyang Technological University.

Ron teaches and researches in the information systems and accounting areas, and he has published extensively in both Australian and international journals. He has also consulted widely on information systems matters, especially the control and audit of computer systems. His book, Information Systems Control and Audit, is used internationally by many students and practitioners. In 1999 he won a University of Queensland award for excellence in teaching. In 2000 he won the inaugural Outstanding Educator Award and the Notable Contribution to the Accounting Literature Award, both presented by the Accounting Association of Australia and New Zealand.

Ron is a Fellow of the Australian Society of Certified Practicing Accountants, the Australian Computer Society, and the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia. He has been a member of the State Divisional Councils for the Australian Society of Certified Practicing Accountants and the Australian Computer Society and a past member of the National Education Committee of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia. From 1987 to 1989, Ron was Australian President of the Accounting Association of Australia and New Zealand. He was on the committee that established the Brisbane chapter of the EDP Auditors Association and Vice-President of the chapter from 1980-1981. In 1994 he won one of four Silver Jubilee Awards given worldwide by the Information Systems Audit and Control Association for contributions to the profession and the discipline of information systems auditing. In 1996 he was also President of the Association for Information Systems. Ron is a co-chair for this International Conference on Information Systems, the first ever in the Southern Hemisphere. Ron has worked on many editorial boards. He is a past senior editor for the MIS Quarterly.
